Web Harmonium is a free, browser-based virtual harmonium instrument that faithfully reproduces the sound and feel of a traditional Indian harmonium. Built with modern Web Audio API technology, it delivers ultra-low latency audio playback so that every key press feels natural and responsive.
The application supports multiple input methods — your computer keyboard, touchscreen, or external MIDI devices — making it versatile enough for practice sessions, live performances, and music education.
The Story Behind the Project
Web Harmonium was driven by a passion for Indian classical music and a desire to bridge the gap between traditional instruments and modern technology. The harmonium — a reed organ widely used in Indian classical, devotional, and folk music — has been a cornerstone of musical traditions for over a century.
However, not everyone has access to a physical harmonium. They can be expensive, difficult to maintain, and impractical to carry around. Web Harmonium solves this by putting a fully functional instrument in your browser, available anytime, anywhere.
